DAPHNE
Of all Apollo's love affairs, his one with Daphne was probably the most written about.
Daphne was a nymph and was daughter of the river god Peneus. His infatuation with Daphne
was not by chance, though. The god of love, Eros, was rather upset with Apollo for having made fun of him
and decided to make Apollo fall madly in love with Daphne. Apollo followed her everywhere and she would not
return his love for her. She decided to seek the help of her father, who made it that if he ever touched her,
she would turn into a laurel tree. When Apollo reached out to embrace her, she was immediately transformed.
Apollo was so upset by this that the laurel tree became his sacred tree and always held a special place in his heart.
