The Story of the Cyclops

The One Eyed Giant

Ulysses was sailing over the ocean, when he came to an island.  So he landed there with some of his sailors.

They walked along the beach and came to a cave.  A giant with only one eye was sitting in front of the cave.  His name was Cyclops.

The Cyclops asked “who are you?”  Ulysses replied “ I am nobody in particular.”  Well nobody, please come into my cave.  He said to be careful not to step on his sheep.  And, once they were inside, Cyclops put a huge stone in front of the door so they could not get out.  Then he picked up his club and killed two sailors, and ate them for dinner.

After eating them, Cyclops went in the corner and took a nap.  So, Ulysses and the other sailors found a sharp stick and held it in the fire until it was red hot.  Then, very carefully, they stuck the hot stick in his eye.  The Cyclops jumped up and began swinging at them.  But, since he was blind they avoided his punches.  He finally gave up, and sat in the corner.

The next morning Ulysses and his sailors tied themselves under the sheep.  When the Cyclops let out the sheep, Ulysses and his sailors were free.  Once outside they began talking so the Cyclops could here them.  The Cyclops cried out “come help me, nobody has put my eye out.”  They laughed and said, “well if nobody put your eye out, why are you making such a fuss?” Click here for more info…
