PLEASE READ THIS PAGE BEFORE YOU TAKE YOUR FIRST QUIZ.
10% of your class grade will be based on one quiz per week, due every Saturday thoughout the semester. At the end of the class, all of your quiz scores will be added together and averaged. An average of 90-100% overall will be an A, 80-89% a B, 70-79% a C, and 60-69% a D.
Actually, the word "quiz" might be a bit of a misnomer, since these aren't tests so much as they are directed reading. You may use your book, the class web pages, and the tapes as much as you like. As far as I'm concerned, you are welcome to sit in front of the computer with your book open, listening to the tape and ticking off the correct answers as they come up, if you've got the patience for that. Most students, however, find it more convenient to print up the quiz at the beginning of the week and keep it handy, ticking off the answers with a pencil as they go along. Then at the end of the week you can use your paper version as a guide when you sit down at the computer to actually take and submit the quiz.
Quizzes are due every Saturday by midnight but you are welcome to submit the quiz at any earlier time during the week if you feel you are ready. To take the quizzes, you must use the same password that you use to access the discussion board. The quizzes are not timed, so you can take as much time as you need to answer the questions before submitting your answers. Each quiz may only be submitted once. If you wish to retake the quiz, that's okay with me, but I'll only count the grade on your first submission. No "practice swings"!
Quizzes may be sent in up to 24 hours late to receive half credit. Quizzes sent in over 24 hours late will not be counted.
You will be allowed one late quiz with no penalty in case of unexpected technical difficulties or other emergency, but after you've used up your one-time exemption there will be no exceptions. This late quiz still needs to be turned in within 24 hours of the original deadline, though. Let me know in a separate e-mail when you want to use the exemption. Unless I hear from you, I will automatically mark down any quiz turned in within 24 hours after the deadline by 50%.
