Correct! Chiron the centaur, the half-brother of Zeus through their mutual father Kronos, is perhaps the most famous tutor in mythological history. Not only the motherless Asclepius, but other mythological heroes such as Achilles and Jason grew up on Mount Pelion under Chiron's watchful eye.
Unfortunately, this great healer could not heal himself: he was accidentally struck by one of Heracles' arrows that had been dipped in the corrosive blood of the monstrous water-snake Hydra (after slaying the creature as one of his labors, Heracles took the practical measure of coating his arrow tips to make them more deadly). Although he was an immortal creature he chose to die rather than live on in pain, and he has taken his place among the stars as the constellation Centaurus.
